Assoc. Prof. Dr. Michal Balog is head of Department of Industrial Engineering and Informatics at Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies with a seat in Prešov, TU Košice. His scientific and educational field is oriented on the green logistics, management, quality control and methods of production systems. He is the organizer of many domestic and international conferences, acts as tutor on PhD study programs and has participated in numerous slovak and international projects as team member and as the project head. Most important project is H2020 “Less Than Wagon Load”, where he participated as a team member and in the year 2015 he finished project entitled “Promotion & Enhancement of Centre for Research on Transportation” with EU Structural Funds. He is author more than 100 publications in Slovakia and abroad.

Smart techniques for technical conditions monitoring of railway wagons

 An important part of the safe operation of rail transport is a quality rolling stock park and abidance the rules and standards applicable in rail transport. Just lawbreaking as well as neglect of the technical condition are frequent reasons for accidents, low security and subsequent non-compliance with the timetable graphics. For this reason it is necessary to ensure that only high-quality rail wagons with well-loaded loads can enter the transport load.

These conditions can be provided in two ways:

  • Smart wagon, independent of the owner reporting its technical condition,
  • Check points as part of a transport road, that will be monitored the technical condition and all necessary parameters independently of the freight wagon carrier.

In the first case, this is a conscious approach by the owners of railway wagons, and in the second case it is a form of restriction by the owner side and the rail transport controller too.

Vitalii Ivanov is an Associate Professor of the Department of Manufacturing Engineering, Machines and Tools, and Vice Dean for International Affairs of the Faculty of Technical Systems an Energy Efficient Technologies of Sumy State University (Ukraine). He received a B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Specialist Degree (eq. Master of Science) in Manufacturing Engineering from Sumy State University (Ukraine) in 2005 and 2006 respectively; an Ph.D. Degree in Manufacturing Engineering from National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” (Ukraine) in 2010. In 2014 he was awarded the title of International Engineering Educator (ING.PAED.IGIP) by International Society for Engineering Education. Dr. Ivanov is a member of ASME, IAENG, IGIP, EAI, associate member of EuroScience, and senior member of theIRED. Dr. Ivanov is a General Chair of the International Conference on Design, Simulation, Manufacturing: The Innovation Exchange (DSMIE-2018) and Program Committee member of International Conferences MMS in 2017 and 2018 (Slovak Republic), CBU 2018 (Czech Republic), Regional HELIX 2018 (Portugal).

Dr. Ivanov took part in research projects funded by Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, State Fund for Fundamental Researches, Ukrainian manufacturing companies, and EU grant program TEMPUS (project ENGITEC) funded by European Union. He was awarded of Scholarship of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for Young Researches in 2011 and 2014, Fellowship for Research Internship from Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine in 2011 and 2012, National Scholarship of the Slovak Republic in 2015, JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Fellowship in 2016, Erasmus+ scholarship for teaching in 2018. Dr. Ivanov was a Visiting Scholar at Institute for Machine Tools, University of Stuttgart (Germany) in 2011, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (USA) in 2013, and Visiting Associate Professor at Technical University of Kosice (Slovak Republic) in 2016. He took part in trainings at University of Leeds (Great Britain), Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Tashkent Automobile Road Institute (Uzbekistan), Georgian Technical University (Georgia), Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (Georgia), Chubu University (Japan). Dr. Ivanov carried out researches in Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Poland.

Dr. Ivanov’s research activities concern fixture design, include analysis, multicriteria optimization, verification; CAx technologies for manufacturing engineering; multiaxis machining of complex parts for automotive industry; energy-efficient technologies for engineering; augmented reality for manufacturing and education. His works within this scope were published in textbooks, monographs, national and international peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, patents, and presented at many scientific conferences.

Computer-Aided Positioning of Elements of the System “Fixture – Workpiece”

The correct locating of workpieces in fixtures is an important step for ensuring the accuracy of machining. The choice of the locating chart for the specified conditions depends on the size and quality of the locating surfaces, as well as on their location. The concept of safety zone is introduced for the identification places in a workpiece, which are not desirable to use at the design stage for the contact with locating and clamping elements. The method of computer-aided positioning of functional elements of modular fixtures is proposed considering design and technological parameters of workpiece’s surfaces. Integration of this technique into the computer-aided fixture design system is an effective solution for reducing time for designing fixtures for drilling-milling-boring machine tools, as well as for increasing the quality of fixtures’ configuration. This approach is sufficient for fixture design for parts machining in automotive, pump, oil and gas industries. A mobile application is developed for providing positioning and visualization of the mechanical system “fixture – workpiece” using the technology of augmented reality. Case study is included to demonstrate the effectiveness and capabilities of the developed methodology.

3. Assist. prof. Marko Periša

Marko Periša was born on March 2, 1979, in Zagreb where he finished elementary and high school and enrolled in Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, University of Zagreb (postal and telecommunication course). During the academic year 2002/2003 he received the Rector’s Award of University of Zagreb for student work titled “Model of multiple-criteria decision making in the function of selecting mobile telephony operatory in Republic of Croatia). On April 11, 2013 he defended doctoral dissertation on Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences titled “Dynamic guiding and routing of disabled and visually impaired persons in traffic”. He is the Head of the Laboratory of Development and Research of Information and Communication Assistive Technology and Head of Chair of Information Communication Systems and Networks.

Since 2005, he is a part of the Register of Researches at the MZO under the registered number 269095. In his scientific research work he published more than 40 papers in scientific journals and international scientific conferences and three chapters in scientific books. He also participated in several international (EU), national, faculty projects and supporting programs for research at the University of Zagreb which deal with issues in traffic technologies.

He is a member of societies: TM Forum, Daaam International, International Telecommunications Society (ITS), Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), European Alliance for Innovation (EAI). He is also a member of Supervising Board of the Croatian Chamber of Traffic and Transport Technologies (HKITPT), professional class of engineers of postal, information and communication traffic, and a member of Scientific Council for Traffic of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Traffic Medicine and Traffic Safety Section).

Application of innovative smart wearable device in industry 4.0

The development and implementation of innovative information and communication technologies (ICT) can contribute to enhance efficiency of all supply chain processes. Industry 4.0 concept is focused on implementation of ICT in logistic processes. It is possible to integrate specific elements of logistic processes (storage, person, information) into smart environment for achieving more efficient logistic processes. Conceptual system architecture will be proposed based on user requirements, analysis of ICT (sensors, AIDC technologies) possibilities and analysis of innovative information and communication applications and devices. The proposed architecture will be based on the Internet of Things concept whose elements will provide processes for object identification (products, packages, palettes), automatization, processing and data storage. Cloud Computing will be used for collecting, processing and data storage and models of service usage based on the elements of logistic processes will be presented. The research will show potential security threats in smart environment and propose methods for protection. By simulating the work of smart wristband as a part of the proposed system architecture, the process of object identification, processing, data storage and information delivery to end user will be presented. The simulation will be carried out in laboratory environment with the aim to determine possibilities of implementation in smart warehouses and for the purpose to optimize logistic processes.
